Mineralogist
American Mineralogist (Am Min) is the flagship journal of the Mineralogical Society of America (MSA), continuously published since 1916. Am Min is home to some of the most important advances in the Earth and Planetary Sciences with a mineralogical focus in the broadest sense. Our mission is a continuation of this heritage: to provide readers with reports on exciting, original scientific research, both fundamental and applied, with far-reaching implications and far-ranging appeal.
The acceptance-to-final publication timeframe is approximately eight months on average. The accepted paper is live on the Early Publication site shortly after the editor’s final decision.

Figure 6. (a) Optical image showing the transition region of an aggregate of crystals from the 357 ianthinite specimen, progressing from dark violet (less altered) to golden–yellow (more altered). 358 (b) Intensity ratio map comparing spectroscopic features at 833 and 844 cm–1. This map 359 indicates that the feature at 833 cm–1 is more prominent in unaltered ianthinite. (c) Intensity ratio 360 map comparing features at 833 and 862 cm–1 the 833 cm–1 feature remains fairly prominent, 361 further indicating that this feature originates from unaltered ianthinite. (d) Intensity ratio map 362 comparing features at 844 and 862 cm–1, showing that features in this region are more closely 363 associated with alteration phases of ianthinite. (e) Intensity map of a peak centered at 725 cm–1, 364 with higher intensity associated with unaltered ianthinite.
